The Woodland Works Forest School

What is Forest School ?

Forest School helps to develop confidence and self esteem through experiential learning within the Natural world. It’s an holistic approach that enables physical, emotional well being to become healthy, resilient and creative.

The types of activities that can be done are endless – from den building, making rope ladders, exploring, identifying and photographing the varied flora and fauna, cooking on the camp fire and whittling just to name a few.

The Woodland Works Forest School Site

The Forest School Base Camp is set among the ancient oaks, with a log circle and a camp fire to gather around, underneath an awning providing us shelter whatever the weather. It is a 10 minute minute walk from the car park through the woodland and meadows. Although it may take longer as you never know how much exploring is going to be done along the way.

Home Ed and School Groups

Children aged between 6 and 12 years old, 10am to 2:30pm. We offer 2 types of sessions:

A series of 8 sessions that cover the 4 essential elements of Water, Shelter, Food and Warmth – 2 sessions on each element. All the sessions will have guided activities and free time for children to explore and practice in their own way and time.

The 2nd type of session is for those who want a longer term experience and a more relaxed pace – giving time for social and emotional development. These sessions are child centered and activities will be determined by what the children would like to do and to learn. Parents are welcome to stay at the Paddock shelter by the car park where there are tea making and toilet facilities. Once a month there will be a Home Ed community day for all the family and younger siblings to come and join in with the fun in the woods.

Fox Cub – Parent and Toddler Group

These sessions are for the younger children, from Babes in arms to 5 years old. The woodland provides such a sensory backdrop for the first steps to be taken and young explorers to tentatively climb their first tree and have delight in making tea for everyone in the mud kitchen. The session is 2 and half hours 9:30 to 11:00
